We are always on the lookout for smart people who think science is cool.
We strive to be an inclusive, supportive lab. We value hard work, rigorous thinking, and having fun.
Prospective Undergraduate Students
Hands-on experience was crucial for me in deciding my career path, and I view giving undergraduates (and high school students) the opportunity to work on our projects an important responsibility. I began working in science at a young age (15!). Through the efforts of my high school biology teacher, I got a fulltime summer internship working side-by-side with a young PI in molecular biology. Looking back, I realize I was given incredible responsibility and I learned not only techniques, but research ethics, that I still apply daily.
Undergrads should expect to spend 6-12 hours a week in the lab throughout the semester. Programs such as STARS, Cox, CEWiT, and CISAB are a great way to become involved in research at IU. Students can also earn X490 credit for working in the lab.
Prospective Graduate Students
If you are interested in pursuing a Ph.D. with me, please read some of my papers and contact me. I am looking for students who are passionate about science and share my research interests. Graduate students in my lab should be independent thinkers who are interested in honing their ideas and analytical skills.
